Shop Generator
Use this to randomly generate various shops.
Note that the generator pulls from a great many sources. Special thanks go to the excellent and charming Basic Fantasy RPG, from which I used the extended adventuring gear equipment list.
- Type: You can select the shop type if you want, or leave it all to the dice. Shop types are on a 2d6 distribution and not all equally likely. The type with the Highest probability is adventuring gear. Weapon shops are slightly more common than armor, and both complete trash/miscellaneous stores and magic supplies are at the extreme ends of the distribution.
- Cost: Prices listed for basic items are taken directly from b/x, OSE, or BFRPG. Some items will have "Ask" in the cost column. This means the players are supposed to ask the shopkeeper for the price. Typically this happens with automatically generated magic items, which the shopkeeper wouldn't have just lying around with a price-tag anyway. The referee has to set a price for these at the table. I suggest a baseline of 300 gp for +1 items, 800 gp for +2, and 1500 gp for +3 magic items. Double that if it's a good magic effect. As always, this is assuming you use silver standard, multiply those prices by 10x if you are on a gold standard.
- Masterwork: Some items are of such exceptional craftsmanship that they have a modifier of +1, even though they are not imbued with magic. These are considered "masterwork" items, and while packing a punch, won't hurt creatures that are immune to non-magical weapons.
- Magic Equipment: This generator creates magic weapons and armor. All magic items have a modifier ranging from -3 to +3. The modifier is added to magic weapon to-hit rolls and damage. Magic armor is listed with the item's base AC, and you must apply the modifier yourself. So a "Leather Armor (AC 7) +2" would actually be AC 5.
- Beatitude: This generator creates items that have a cursed or blessed status. Cursed items procure a mischievous, corrupted, or perverted version of their magical effect. Sometimes this is listed, sometimes this must be abjudicated by the referee. Likewise, blessed items give additional benefits to their innate effect.
